Madrid – March will be an intense month for the Standardisation and Research Unit of the International Olive Council under its programme of activities on olive oil chemistry and standardisation.
From 12 to 14 March, the IOC has organised a seminar on the methods of analysis for the determination of phenolic compounds, which will be held at the Instituto de la Grasa in Seville. This will be followed on 15 and 16 March, by the meeting of chemists on methods of analysis for olive oils and olive-pomace oils, which will be held at the IOC headquarters in Madrid. The following week, on 19 and 20 March, the IOC headquarters will also hold the meeting of experts on organoleptic assessment for the evaluation of testing methods. Tasting sessions will be held for the international IOC panel on the same days to assess the olive oil samples submitted by the companies participating in the 2018 Mario Solinas Award.
In parallel to these activities, the conclusions and proposals drawn up last month by the Advisory Committee working group on the organoleptic assessment method are being prepared for presentation at the Advisory Committee meeting in Amman, Jordan, on 24 and 25 April, and at the session of the Council of Members in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the end of June.
