The fifth edition of the Yale International Symposium on Olive Oil and Health, co-hosted by BLC3 Technology and Innovation Campus and Yale School of Public Health, was held in Oliveira do Hospital (Portugal) from 10 to 13 December 2023.
On this occasion, the International Olive Council’s (IOC) Executive Secretariat was represented by Yousra Antit, Head of the Olive Oil Chemistry Department
This year’s symposium focused on a number of timely topics, including:
- Current and emerging issues encompassing olive oil’s role in public, global, and planetary health;
- Policies and regulations concerning olives and olive oil on both local and global scales;
- Marketing strategies;
- Health-related aspects, such as nutrition, the Nutri-score, and the Mediterranean diet;
- Bioeconomy, circularity, and sustainability;
- Climate change impact and measures for climate resilience.
Yousra Antit contributed to the session on “Nutri-score: policy and bridging value propositions, local and global implications”, where she talked about the Nutri-score issue and the IOC’s action plan. She also participated in the session on “Technology, standardisation, and tradition” during which she presented the IOC’s standards and the standards harmonisation approach.
