The Executive Director of the International Olive Council, Mr Abdellatif Ghedira, paid another visit to the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Madrid, H.E. Ms Taous Feroukhi. When he last met her, in February, he had presented her with a copy of the new International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives, 2015, and had outlined the main changes made to the previous text. On this occasion, he highlighted the importance of ratifying the new Agreement, by depositing the corresponding instruments with the United Nations in New York, before the end of 2016 or, if the Algerian authorities did not have enough time, to submit a notification of the provisional implementation of the new text as of 1 January 2017.
Mr Ghedira took the opportunity to personally invite Ms Feroukhi to the celebration of National Olive Day that the IOC Executive Secretariat is planning alongside the 104th ordinary session of the IOC Council of Members, which will be held from 22 to 25 November.
In this regard, the Executive Director also informed the Ambassador that the IOC is awarding grants to its member countries to organise parallel World Olive Day events. He also announced that the IOC will be participating in the Marrakech COP22 to talk about the role of olive growing in mitigating the effects of global warming.
Ms Feroukhi thanked the IOC Executive Director for his visit, assuring him that she would transmit the information concerning the ratification of the Agreement to the competent Algerian authorities.
