Madrid - The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, met with the Executive Director of the International Olive Council, Abdellatif Ghedira, at Ministry headquarters. Together they went through some key issues of interest to both entities.
At the meeting, the Minister congratulated Ghedira for his renewal for a further four years as Executive Director, as well as the board of directors, including Jaime Lillo of Spain and Mustafa Sepetçi of Turkey.
The Minister sees the IOC as a world reference body for the olive oil and table olive sector, and it should continue to develop its technical functions in the fields of science and training.
The Minister encouraged the IOC to strengthen its promotional activities and continue spreading awareness of the benefits of olive oil in international markets. They reviewed the promotion campaigns already underway at the IOC, covering issues such as health, the environment and quality.
