A videoconference was held on 4 June 2020 between Abdellatif Ghedira, Executive Director of the IOC, and H.E. Jakhongir Ganiev, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Madrid. The Head of the Legal Department and the Head of the External Relations Department also took part in the remote meeting.
The discussion focused on Uzbekistan’s future membership in the IOC. The Executive Director congratulated his guest for the decision taken by his government to join the Council family and especially for the signature of the membership action plan between the Uzbek Minister of Agriculture and the Chair of the IOC.
Together, they clarified what Uzbekistan needed to do to become a full member before the November 2020 session of the Council of Members.
At the end of the meeting, the Executive Director informed his guest that the Executive Secretariat was at his full disposal to help the Government of Uzbekistan take the next steps towards accession.
