On 8 November 2022, the head of the Standardisation and Research Unit, Mercedes Fernández Albaladejo, attended a presentation on a new book about the health benefits of virgin olive oils, entitled “Aceites de oliva y salud. Beneficios de los aceites de oliva vírgenes”. The event took place at the headquarters of the General Council of Official Medical Associations in Madrid. The book, which was written in collaboration with 36 authors and edited by Dr Eduard Escrich (pictured with Ms Fernández), is a joint initiative of the Spanish olive oil interprofessional organisation (Interprofesional del Aceite de Oliva Español) and the Patrimonio Comunal Olivarero Foundation.
The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, also attended the event.
The IOC has an Olive Oil Health Information System (OHIS), a platform available free of charge to researchers and consumers.
