The International Olive Council (IOC) and the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) are working hand-in-hand towards this year’s celebration of World Olive Day (WOD). On this occasion, the theme of WOD is centred around women’s vital role in the fascinating world of olive oil. Their 360º contribution to the sector all around the world is as valuable as it is timeless.
Both Organisations are thrilled to announce the official image which will accompany the celebration of WOD. It was altruistically designed by the célèbre Italian illustrator and cartoonist Valerio Marini. Marini, who was born in Gallarate (Italy) in 1950, has collaborated with a wide range of outlets, among which we can find Olio Officina, an online editorial dedicated to the olive world.
This captivating art piece romantically embeds the essential contribution of women to the olive oil sector into an olive. He portrays them as the unsung heroes of these millennial trees, and as their long-standing nurturers and caretakers.
IOC and CIHEAM want to extend their most profound appreciation to the artist Valerio Marini for his invaluable contribution to the celebration of World Olive Day 2023.
