World Olive Day 2024 Commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid
In November 2024, we mark the 30th anniversary of the Mediterranean diet pyramid’s official publication, celebrating the pioneers and organizations who championed this initiative and recognizing its lasting impact on Mediterranean cultural heritage and global health. Leading scientists in health and nutrition continue to advocate for the Mediterranean diet as a key to human and planetary well-being, especially as the world faces the challenge of feeding a growing population sustainably.
In honour of these contributions, the International Olive Council (IOC), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and the International Centre for Advanced Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) will celebrate World Olive Day on Thursday, 21 November, at CSIC’s headquarters in Madrid, to highlight the vital role of the olive tree and promote awareness of the Mediterranean diet’s benefits.
