Uzbekistan is officially the 18th member of the International Olive Council as of 31 August 2021.
The news comes directly from the United Nations, the depository of the International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives.
On 9 October 2015 at the United Nations Conference held in Geneva, was adopted the International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives after the Negotiation of a Successor Agreement to the International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives settled in 2005 .
“With the ratification of the agreement by Uzbekistan, the country becomes a full member of the International Olive Oil Council sharing the objectives, mission and obligations of this important intergovernmental body, the largest forum on olive growing in the world”. Abdellatif Ghedira, Executive Director of the IOC, said.
The first official appointment will be the next session of the Council in Tiblisi, Georgia, at the end of November next. “But first in the coming weeks we will organize a flag-raising ceremony in front of the IOC headquarters in Madrid for a mutual exchange of welcome and good work with our Uzbeksitan friends” Mr. Ghedira added.
