Each year, the IOC organises tests to check the competence of the physico-chemical and sensory analysis laboratories applying for IOC recognition. Many physico-chemical analysis laboratories participated in the 2022 trial to obtain IOC recognition for the period from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, in accordance with Decision DEC-III.7/114-VI/2021.
This Decision provides for three types of recognition:
– Type A approval: basic testing
– Type B approval: advanced purity testing, including quality parameters
– Type C approval: residue and contaminant testing.
The IOC also holds two tests to verify the competence of laboratories that conduct the organoleptic assessment of virgin olive oil, in accordance with Decision DEC13/103-V/2015.
The samples for these proficiency tests were sent to all participating laboratories and panels.
