The International Olive Council (IOC) took part in the the Abrantes Olive Oil Symposium, held in the framework of the Iberian Olive Oil Meeting at the Abrantes Vocational School for Rural Development on 22 March 2025. The event, opened by the Mayor of Abrantes, Manuel Jorge Valamatos, brought together a wide range of stakeholders in the olive oil sector, including researchers, industry professionals and institutional representatives.
IOC Deputy Executive Director, Abderraouf Laajimi, was invited as a speaker in the panel dedicated to the olive oil market. His presentation, The Olive Sector: An International Perspective, focused on key trends shaping the global olive oil market, including recent developments and future outlooks.
In his remarks, A. Laajimi also paid tribute to Professor José Batista Gouveia, recognising his key contributions to the olive oil sector and his long-standing collaboration with the IOC.
Structured around thematic panels, the symposium addressed technical, agronomic, economic and policy issues relevant to the olive sector, reinforcing dialogue between academia, industry and public institutions.
