EXPORT FIGURES OF OLIVE OIL IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oli reached 803 292 tonnes for an estimated value of €2 854.2 millions (-2.1% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In November of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports increased by +1% compared to the previous month. The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €414 per 100kg (+1.8% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of olive oil reached 1 093 051 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €3.149 billion, placing it in first place followed by Italy with 349 995 tonnes and €1.434 billion ; Portugal with 191 007 tonnes and €587.6 millions ; and Greece with 171 541 tonnes and €581 millions.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oil reached 803 292 tonnes for an estimated value of €2.854 billion (-2.1% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category in the 2019/2020 crop year, 70.7% of total exports were under code 15091020 (extra virgin olive oil), followed by imports under 15091080 (Virgin olive oil) with 5.8%, 15099000 (Other olive oils) with 19%, and the remaining 4.4% under 15091010 (Virgin lampante).

In November of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports stood at 106.8 (+35.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1% compared to the previous month).

Also in November of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €414 per 100kg (+27.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 66 917.4 tonnes (-8.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.6% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-21.5%), Brazil(-41.6%), Canada(-17.5%), China(-4.8%), Japan(+67.9%), Republic of Korea(+91.9%), Russian Federation(+0.6%), United kingdom(-37.8%), United States(-4.2%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain are the most representative olive oil exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 70% of global olive oil exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from November of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 117.5 (+40% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.3% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €385 per 100kg (+39% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 40 219.9 tonnes (-2.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.3% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-19%), Brazil(-1.3%), Canada(-35.3%), China(-4.6%), Japan(+86.4%), Republic of Korea(+236.2%), Russian Federation(-19.6%), United kingdom(-47.1%), United States(+0.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €309 per 100kg (+29.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 42 612 tonnes (-12.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.5% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from November of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index at 103.8 (+20.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.7% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €468 per 100kg (+16.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 18 546.5 tonnes (-5.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.4% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-5.7%), Brazil(+12.6%), Canada(-7.6%), China(+0.2%), Japan(+34.5%), Republic of Korea(-30.4%), Russian Federation(+27.7%), United kingdom(-33.3%), United States(-12%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €425 per 100kg (+13% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 9 488.9 tonnes (-2.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +8.3% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from November of the 2021/2022 crop year put unit value index of exports at 112.6 (+22.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.4% compared to the previous month).

the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €476 per 100kg (+25.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 974.5 tonnes (-9.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9.7% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +11.7% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €368 per 100kg (+27.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 769.6 tonnes (-37.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +21.6% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from November of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 90.2 (+8.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.7% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €418 per 100kg (+22.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 4 530.4 tonnes (-47.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -32.4% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to Brazil was -53.8% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €304 per 100kg (+20.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 25 455.3 tonnes (+95.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +289% compared to the previous month).
