The advanced training course for panel leaders has been completed. The Executive Secretariat gave the course by videoconference. Only approved panels are qualified to use the IOC methods to assess the quality of virgin olive oil, and, given these panels’ contribution to the elaboration process and their responsibility in the international trade of olive oils, it is important to update their knowledge of the norms and rules governing IOC-recognition of their competence.
The objective was to provide participants with the necessary tools to lead a panel of olive oil tasters according to the methods adopted by the IOC. Encouraging non-member countries to set up approved laboratories for the quality control of marketed olive oils, the fight against fraud, as well as strengthening the application of the IOC standard in consumer countries was also one of the objectives of this course.
Some 46 tasters from 21 countries took part in this course.
