The network of women in olive oil, which the IOC has been supporting and promoting for several years, continues to attract public interest. Recently, IOC Executive Director Abdellatif Ghedira was invited to the International Ranieri Filo della Torre Award organised by Pandolea, the Italian association of women in olive oil.
Live from Madrid, Abdellatif Ghedira took the opportunity to highlight some of the important aspects being promoted by the international network of women in olive oil. Below are extracts from his opening speech.
“Dear President of Pandolea, Ms Loriana Abruzzetti. Dear organisers, collaborators, participants and guests of the Ranieri Filo della Torre competition,
First, I would like to thank you for giving me the floor at the opening ceremony of this very important event, in which I would have liked to participate in person to share our scientific and cultural knowledge with the olive growing family to promote the olive sector. I would like to congratulate once again my friend Loriana Abruzzetti, who has dedicated 20 years to her association and to passing on the culture of olive oil to future generations. Thanks to her initiative and drive, Pandolea connects with over 30 000 young people, who are supported by the 50 dynamic members of the association.
Her initiative has been replicated in several countries. With Loriana’s support and advice, we are joined today by national and regional associations from Europe, several Arab countries and even the USA, who reach out to thousands of young people and unite hundreds of members who fly the flag for olive oil, health and the environment.
The International Olive Council is keeping a close eye on your work; you have our full support.
Today, we celebrate a very special event in the eyes of the international olive growing community, the International Ranieri Filo della Torre Award for Literature. Ranieri Filo della Torre was an international figure in our sector, a graduate in agronomy and a member of the Italian Academy of Olive and Oil. He was also a specialist journalist for several magazines and co-author of numerous publications on sector-related issues. He has greatly influenced the Italian and international olive sectors through his decisions and dedication as Director General of Unaprol. Today, we are delighted to take part, at the invitation of Pandolea, in this ceremony of this competition, which is dedicated to the olive tree and its oil. This competition celebrates the important link between art, culture, literature, history and the future.
The IOC is counting on you and your initiatives to pass on our knowledge and love of this blessed tree to future generations around the world. Thanks again and good luck!”
