A growing success for the latest edition of OLIVAE 128 dedicated to Uruguay. In 20 days since its launch, almost 400 editions in French, English and Spanish have already been downloaded free of charge from our website. Considering the festive period at the end of the year, this is a real success. Many readers have chosen this period to also download other editions from our digital library, which the College of Senior Officials has made free of charge to stem the tide of social confinement caused by the pandemic.
At the world premiere ceremony on 14 December 2021, via web with live worldwide links from Montevideo in Uruguay to Teheran in the Islamic Republic of Iran, we recorded several speeches. Here are two very important ones. That of the Minister of Agriculture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, H.E. Eng. Khaled Henefat, who will also take over the presidency of the International Olive Council from 1 January 2022.Another contribution was made by the Honourable Ignacio Buffa, Deputy Minister for Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Government of Uruguay.
We propose it below and invite all readers to download the magazine free of charge in French, English and Spanish at this link:

Greetings from the Uruguayan Governament
Montevideo (Uruguay) – I would like to start this brief speech by thanking the Director of the IOC, Mr. Abdellatif Ghedira, the President of the IOC, Mr. George Svandize, and the Editorial Committee for dedicating the 128th edition of OLIVAE magazine to the Uruguayan oviculture.
“This magazine, said Juan Ignacio Buffa (pictured), deputy minister for Livestock, Agricolture and Fisheries in Uruguay, provides a great opportunity to show the Uruguayan oliviculture to the world as well as illustrating the quality of the extra virgin olive oils that are produced in our country. Uruguay is an agro-exporting country which offers award winning products which are environmentally friendly.
In that sense, the Uruguayan oviculture interacts in perfect harmony with other productive chains of the country, such as, cattle ranching, forestry and tourism. Consequently, these ovicultural products provide diversification for Uruguay.
The international olive industry has high quality standards, and Uruguay has taken important steps in the local and foreign market to reach them; in the process Uruguay has earned international awards and recognitions. The olive sector in Uruguay has the support of several governmental institutions. These institutions work very closely with the private sector in research topics as well as in sensory and chemical analysis, amongst other things. Additionally, the participation of Uruguay in the IOC allows the sector to be on the top of the most demanding international standards.
We appreciate the effort and commitment of the institutions that contributed with the different articles for the OLIVAE magazine dedicated to our country. The research that they carried out contributes to the adaptation of these crops from traditional environmental conditions to those of higher humidity, as well as providing better knowledge of the quality of the oils produced by Uruguay.
This publication is a milestone for the sector to continue the export development of extra virgin olive oil, and continue to underpin Uruguay’s prestige as a reliable food producer.
Thank you.
