Japan imported 61 065 t of olive oil and olive pomace oil in the 2020/21 crop year [1], 15.2% less than in 2019/20.

Japan accounts for 6% of the top 64% of olive oil imports, placing it [2], fourth behind the US (35%), the EU (15%) and Brazil (8%).

Japanese imports of olive oil and olive-pomace oil fell by 15.2% in the 2020/21 crop year, reaching 61 065 t. Table 1 shows imports over the last seven crop years. Italy and Spain are the main suppliers to Japan, accounting for 93.4% of the total, followed by Turkey with 4.3%.

Some 77.4% of total imports fell under code 15.09.10 (virgin olive oils), 19.5% under code 15.09.90 (olive oils) and 3.1% under code (15.10.00) (olive pomace oils).
