On 17 October 2022, a meeting on the study of olive oils with non-standard parameters took place by videoconference. The participants analysed and discussed the data from the sterols study.
On 18 and 19 October 2022, the Executive Secretariat held a videoconference meeting with expert chemists from around the world. Observers from several countries attended, including Australia, Canada and the USA. Representatives from the Codex Alimentarius, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO TC34 SC11) and the Advisory Committee also attended.
At the beginning of the meeting, the experts discussed documents adopted at the 115th session of the Council of Members and documents that will be presented at the 116th session, including draft revisions of methods and parameters.
The attendees discussed matters of interest in the fields of standardisation, research and the study of methods of analysis to guarantee the quality and authenticity of olive oils and olive-pomace oils. The chair of the eWG on the Codex Committee on Fats and Oils presented the group’s work and the next steps to take before the 28th session of the Committee in 2024. The representative of the Codex Secretariat presented the detailed timetable.
Among the presentations given were the conclusions of the analysis of data from different countries, the responses to the survey from the studies on sterols, the collaborative trial on volatile compounds and MOSH/MOAH.
Participants also discussed harmonising international standards, future priorities, creating new specific eWGs and organising collaborative trials.
