EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

In August of the 2023/2024 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €439 per 100kg (+22.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 18 079.3 tonnes (-11.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -34.9% compared to the previous month).

As for first estimates of the 2022/2023 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 310 104 tonnes for an estimated value of €1.032 billion (-2.7% and +2.9% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 306 947 tonnes in the 2022/2023 crop year for an estimated value of €901.7 million, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 186 815 tonnes and €623.6 million; Portugal with 45 612 tonnes and €67.9 million ; and Italy with 31 342 tonnes and €126.1 million.

In terms of volumes by product category, 81.3% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2022/2023 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 4.6%, 07099210 with 5.5%, 07112010 with 5.2%, and the remaining 3.4% under 07108010.

In August of the 2023/2024 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €439 per 100kg (+22.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 18 079.3 tonnes (-11.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -34.9% compared to the previous month).

Also in August, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-37.7%), Brazil(-24.7%), Canada(-14.4%), Russian Federation(-32.3%), Arabia Saudi(-9.7%), United kingdom(+12.8%), and United States(-13%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from August of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €429 per 100kg (+16.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 9 867.2 tonnes (-6.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -35.7% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-27.5%), Brazil(-31.7%), Canada(-10.7%), Japan(-10.3%), Russian Federation(-28.2%), Arabia Saudi(-1.7%), United kingdom(+16%), United States(-13%), Italy(-3.3%), Germany(-7.5%), France(-14.6%), and Portugal(-35.6%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €405 per 100kg (+29.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +10.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 486.9 tonnes (-14.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -42.9% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from August of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €445 per 100kg (+35.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 5 549.5 tonnes (-17.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -39.3% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -12.6%, Italy was -29.2%, Germany was -20.2%, Romania was -18.7%, Australia was -41.5%, and Albania was -3% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €450 per 100kg (+46.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +8.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 4 778.5 tonnes (-16.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -42.3% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from August of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €363 per 100kg (+14.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 434.8 tonnes (-26.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -17.3% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -19.8%, Russia was -62.6%, Canada was +193.2%, Brazil was -45.5%, Spain was +0.2%, and France was -9.3% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €117 per 100kg (+10.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 655.6 tonnes (+0.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -62.7% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from August of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €481 per 100kg (+18.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 578.3 tonnes (-9.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -20.9% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-34.5%), Canada(-23.7%), Japan(-90.5%), United kingdom(+3%), United States(-8.3%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €308 per 100kg (-21.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +36.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 665.6 tonnes (-26.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -42.5% compared to the previous month).
