EXPORT FIGURES OF OLIVE OIL IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

In September of the 2023/2024 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports decreased by -3.4% compared to the previous month. The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €881 per 100kg (-3.7% compared to the previous month).

As for first estimates of the 2022/2023, extra-EU exports of olive oil reached 602 217 tonnes for an estimated value of €3.594 billion (-26.6% and +0.4% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

Spanish exports of olive oil reached 738 851 tonnes in the 2022/2023 crop year for an estimated value of €3.909 billion, placing it in first place followed by Italy with 297 628 tonnes and €1.899 billion ; Portugal with 179 508 tonnes and €911.3 million ; and Greece with 246 705 tonnes and €1.4 billion.

In terms of volumes by product category in the 2022/2023 crop year, 73.5% of total exports were under code 15091020 (extra virgin olive oil), followed by imports under 15091080 (Virgin olive oil) with 3%, 15099000 (Other olive oils) with 21.4%, and the remaining 2.1% under 15091010 (Virgin lampante).

In September of the 2023/2024 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports stood at 301.7 (+33.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.4% compared to the previous month).

Also in September of the 2023/2024 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €881 per 100kg (+19.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 51 691.3 tonnes (+10.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +15.7% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+120.9%), Brazil(-10.4%), Canada(-33.2%), China(+181.3%), Japan(-33.4%), Republic of Korea(+188.3%), Russian Federation(+22.6%), United kingdom(-3.9%), United States(-4.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain are the most representative olive oil exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 70% of global olive oil exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from September of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 326.3 (+17.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €843 per 100kg (+23.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 30 181.3 tonnes (+20.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +21.3% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(+101.9%), Brazil(-77.3%), Canada(-21.5%), China(+227.9%), Japan(-22.2%), Republic of Korea(+270.2%), Russian Federation(+103.8%), United kingdom(+7.2%), United States(-11.3%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €702 per 100kg (+3.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 37 575.5 tonnes (+11.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +29% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from September of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value index at 299.4 (+39.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.2% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €962 per 100kg (+22.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 13 932.2 tonnes (-4.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.3% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+222.6%), Brazil(-6%), Canada(-37.5%), China(-74.3%), Japan(-43.1%), Republic of Korea(+73.8%), Russian Federation(-8.8%), United kingdom(-35.2%), United States(+1.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €464 per 100kg (-40.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -50.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 7 436.2 tonnes (-4.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.2% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from September of the 2023/2024 crop year put unit value index of exports at 310.1 (+12% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.5% compared to the previous month).

the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €801 per 100kg (+0.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -8.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 778.9 tonnes (+34.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +46.3% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +38.2% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €771 per 100kg (-6.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 116 tonnes (+22% compared to the same period previous crop year or +117.6% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from September of the 2023/2024 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 257.3 (-1.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.2% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €875 per 100kg (+2.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 4 850.4 tonnes (+3.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +15.5% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to Brazil was +8.9% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €590 per 100kg (-0.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 097.6 tonnes (+58.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +22.9% compared to the previous month).
